Jack Blondell, of Shrewsbury
once lived within the Castles precincts. He married six women
in succession. Each of the first five, when he grew tired of her
and wanted a change, disappeared from view and was never seen
again.
The sixth wife became concerned
about what happened to the fifth, which had been her sister. She
mentioned her suspicions to an alert watchman. He took the complaint
seriously, and during his search of Blondells hovel he came across
a cupboard full of rotting human remains.
Bold Jack was taken into custody
and confessed to his nefarious activities. He expiated his sins
by swinging from a gibbet at Old Heath.
It is not widely known that his
ghost and possibly those of his hapless wives as well, haunts
the Castle to this very day..
